Ministerul Sănătăţii francez a raportat în ultima zi din an, pe 31 decembrie, 19.927 de noi cazuri de COVID-19, sub bilanţul de 26.457 consemnat miercuri, dar în continuare mult peste ţinta de cel mult 5.000 de cazuri zilnice stabilită de guvern pentru relaxarea restricţiilor.

Orice deplasare neesenţială este în prezent interzisă pe întreg teritoriul Franţei între orele 20:00 şi 06:00, dar începând de sâmbătă interdicţia se va aplica începând de la ora 18:00 în respectivele 15 departamente. Acestea sunt: Hautes-Alpes, Alpes-Maritimes, Ardennes, Doubs, Jura, Marne, Haute-Marne, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse, Haute-Saône, Vosges, Territoire-de-Belfort, Moselle, Nièvre și Saône-et-Loire. Deşi autorităţile au interzis orice petrecere şi adunare în noaptea de Anul Nou, în localitatea Lieuron din vestul Franţei mii de tineri, francezi şi străini, s-au adunat la o astfel de petrecere ilegală, circa 2.500 dintre ei fiind încă acolo vineri dimineaţă. Jandarmii au intervenit, dar „s-au lovit de ostilitatea violentă a numeroşi petrecăreţi (...), un vehicul al jandarmeriei a fost incendiat, altele au fost avariate şi asupra militarilor s-a aruncat cu sticle şi pietre, provocând răni uşoare'”, afirmă prefectura locală într-un comunicat, menţionând de asemenea că a fost deschisă o anchetă pentru ultraj şi organizare ilegală de adunări festive, mai scrie sursa citată.
